Introduction-Blogger

Living in Bangalore, my love for Ghazals started during my MBA hostel days. Though I had heard a few Ghazals in the past, courtesy- an audio cassette titled "Ghazals in Hindi Films" that I borrowed from a friend during my days in Delhi, I never understood the significance or beauty of the art form. A lot was also due to the fact that I never knew to read/write/speak Hindi (leave alone Urdu) properly and got a hang of the language only after going to the Capital city.

Hostel life in Bangalore introduced me to a whole new world of music, some that I liked and some that did not appeal much. Weekends meant friends getting together in one of the hostel rooms with my laptop and a collection of songs titled 'Suroor' that predominantly had Hindi songs (considering that majority of the group did not understand other regional languages) that invariably started with a few popular romantic songs of the 90's. Since the collection was housed in my laptop (I never shared it with anyone-a big mistake-and one day my laptop konked!), I played DJ at most times.

Half an hour into the session the heavy numbers mostly, Ghazals or sad songs from Kishore Kumar's repertoire would kick in and would continue endlessly till the wee hours. Coupled with anecdotes from everyone's lives or talks of their beloved these were some of the most memorable moments. My very own 'Bangalore Days'.

This blog is just the next step for me to sustain the interest and learn a lot more about Ghazals. To be honest, I don't even know where to start and which way to go. But I sincerely wish to delve a lot more into this mesmerizing world of poetry and music.
